Treating yourself and something tasty

One of the best things about coming down to visit my mom in Virginia is that I can go to Prestige Nails for a mani/pedi.  I have gone to places from Philadelphia to Charlotte, and this is the best place by far.  I will hold off on getting one at home knowing that I am coming down this way.   I have been going to them for fifteen years and have never found anyone who even comes close to them. So if you are in the Centreville, VA area please stop in and check them out.  Mention that I sent you.  LOL.  It will get you nothing, but they do like me :-)  They are also very worth a road trip.
Why am I telling you this?  Because it is extremely important to take care of your feet and muscles when you are working out.   Blisters.  Callouses. Sore muscles.  Your body takes a pounding.  If you can treat your body to some pampering after you work hard it will thank you.  And you will be so happy.  That goes for stretching too.  Take care of your muscles.
I always take a book to read while I’m sitting in the massage chair, but yesterday I just closed my eyes and relaxed.  It was pure heaven.  My body was so relaxed for the rest of the night that I fell asleep in the middle of a family party.  This is no reflection on my company as I was laughing hysterically just moments before.
Now I will say treat yourself to the pedicure , but then take a day off from working out because your feet may be a little raw like mine.  So today is another day of rest.  It’s also a travel day.  But, I know that all week is free so I will go walking all week.
Right after the pedicure we went to my aunt’s for dinner.  It was so good that I am going to share the recipe.  You can eat healthy and eat tasty at the same time:
Slow Cooker Chicken Marrakesh
Prep time – 25 minutes, Cook time- 4 hours, Servings- 8
Description: Chunks of boneless chicken breast simmer for hours with sweet potatoes, garbanzo beans, tomatoes, and North African-inspired spices for a hearty dinner that cooks itself while you do other things.  LIKE WORKOUT
Ingredients:
1 onion, sliced
2 cloves garlic, minced (optional)
2 large carrots, peeled, diced and sliced
1 (15 ounce) can garbanzo beans, drained and rinsed
2 pounds skinless, boneless chicken breast halves, cut into 2-inc pieces
½ teaspoon ground cumin
½ teaspoon ground turmeric
½ teaspoon ground cinnamon
½ teaspoon ground black pepper
1 teaspoon dried parsley
1 teaspoon salt
1 (14.5 ounce) can of diced tomatoes
Directions:
1-Place the onion, garlic, carrots, sweet potatoes, garbanzo beans, and chicken breast pieces into a slow cooker.  In a bowl, mix the cumin, turmeric, cinnamon, black pepper, parsley, and salt and sprinkle over the chicken and vegetables.  Pour in the tomatoes, and stir to combine.
2-Cover the cooker, set to High, and cook until the sweet potatoes are tender and the sauce has thickened, 4 to 5 hours.
DELICIOUS!
We had it with rice and pita bread.
So no excuses people, I have just given you a healthy tasty meal that you can make while you workout.
****Now, in full disclosure, it was a birthday dinner so dessert was cupcakes.  But, I only had one :-)

    Sounds delicious.
Can't wait for tomorrow morning when I have a pedicure scheduled for 10:30 a.m. If you are anywhere near the Elkins Park, PA area I have a great recommendation for you. One gal in particular gets my vote. She is the best. Message me or email me for the name and address if you want.

  2. Enjoy your pedicure :-) I don't think I'm in the immediate area, but I think we all know I will travel for a good pedicure.

  3. Ok you continue to inspire me. As I said before I started WW almost 3 weeks ago and I have gained 2.5 lbs. Every time I gain weight I seem to eat more. What the heck is that? Exercise is a struggle for me. I am 54 yo female and I have been a couch potato for several years. Intermitently I have joined an excerise class, walked with a friend or even praticed yoga, but nothing has lasted. So I guess you could say I excercise good intentions to exercise.
    Any helpful hints?

  4. It's the eternal battle :-( If exercise is a struggle I would concentrate on the eating healthy part. When you're eating healthy you have more energy, which will help you with exercise. I tried so many different exercises and I didn't love most of them. Walking is just my fit. And so I have a reward system. If I walk all of my scheduled times this week I can buy those earrings I really like. Don't give up! We'll figure it out.
