Creepy Lazy Town

Hello Beautiful People,

One of my favorite times to go to the gym is Saturday morning. I do like the park on a Saturday, but there is something about the gym on a Saturday. Sometimes during the week it feels like people are there to just go through the motions, but those who are there Saturday morning instead of sleeping in, well they are dedicated. They push me faster on the treadmill.

It's also one of my least favorite times. There is a creepy show for kids on Saturday mornings that is always playing on the tv. Lazy Town. The whole thing is creepy looking. It drives me crazy.

It never dawned on me until last week that it's actually a good show for kids. The whole point is to teach them healthy habits. Last week the theme was about sugar. I'm so torn. I know this show has been on for several years so clearly it has an audience. If the messages are positive and healthy that's a good thing. Why does it have to be so creepy though?

I guess the good thing is that I won't be so horrified when it's on from now on. Bring on the Saturday Morning runs!

Speaking of, my back was really bothering me this week. It was a mixture of a few things. First, my mild scoliosis is the instigator. Second, I spent a lot of days running around all day and therefore carried 3-4 bags around or loaded up on to be too heavy. Third, I spent some time sitting on the floor playing legos. It's not easy to explain to a 7 yr old why you can no longer sit there or join her on the comfy couch for a movie because you must sit in the hard backed chair.

Because my back hurt I needed to rest it. My first day back at the gym I did 10 miles on the stationary bike because it had a high backed seat that I could press up against. My hip was hurting and the idea of the impact of running made me weep. I felt better yesterday though and I ran for 5 miles before getting on the bike. Oh it was a good run. Hooray!  I think I'm back to good now. I have yoga tomorrow just to be safe. STRETCH THAT HIP!

Have a Blessed Evening

Random Thursday: Movies, Raspberries, and journals

Happy Random Thursday!

The other day I went to a matinee. My morning before it included a client and then a couple of hours at the gym. I ran intervals for 5 miles and biked 5 miles. I showered there then went to Subway for a 6 inch ham on multigrain flatbread. As soon as I was done I went over to Harris Teeter for some drinks and snacks.

I can't believe that I finally made it to being an adult and I can get any snack that I want at the movies and I don't leap into a vat of buttery popcorn like the Former Fat Girl liked to do.

I always like my dark chocolate raisinets for movies. But, I also knew that I would get hungry again since I had my run. So I got a small pack of pistachios too. I also bought a bottle of water and a bottle of Diet Dr. Pepper (I felt sure I would need a caffeine fix).

My key to survival was the eating before the movie. I did get hungry again during it and the nuts came in handy. But, there were still in their shells so they were a little loud. Lol.

*****

My new favorite fruit to put in water is Raspberries. Gasp! Delicious!

Someone got a new phone this week. HOLLA!  So excited. I loved my last phone and it lasted me two years, but the last month the battery was killing me. I got the new LG G4. The camera is amazing...and I now need to make sure I am wearing make up for all selfies. LOL.

I did get a little terrified that I was going to break it at the gym. I have two weeks to return it in case I didn't like it so I didn't buy the case just yet. I will be going ASAP to get one. It's a keeper!

*****

So I've been thinking long and hard about what I want to do next. I think my natural transition is hiking. I love being outdoors. I love long walks. I love Nature. It's a given. I'm not sure how far I want to take it. I'm not a pee outdoors kind of girl and I am terrified of snakes. So I think I'll start with day trips. I have been reading a blog about hiking the Appalachian Trail and I am completely intrigued. As it is 2000 miles and takes an average of 5 months I don't exactly see it on my list. But, maybe I work my way up to doing it for a few days and then maybe a week or so.

Who am I?  And did I really just say that?

*****

Please note that I have a new favorite drink at Starbucks: Iced Coffee with Sugar-free hazelnut syrup and non-fat milk. YUM

*****

The best advice that I can give is to keep a journal of what you do on your workouts and what you eat. Keep track of the weights that you use and how much you eat out. Also keep track of your emotions and any external factors (weather, period, schedule, etc).

I have been keeping a new journal for training for the next marathon. The past couple of weeks have been challenging as my schedule changes day to day and sometimes I have to adjust immediately.

I noticed a phrase that kept coming up in my journal "I planned to ...., but ..." In most cases I was able to still get something in, just not what I planned. I am really hoping that after next week my schedule stabilizes a little better.

Guess what I am doing tomorrow!  I am meeting with my new Girls on the Run coaches. YEAH! So excited.

The season starts September 22 (also the same day Pitch Perfect 2 comes out on DVD which makes it the best day EVER!)

Have you seen Descendants from Disney?  There are two songs I like for this post. The first is Rotten to the Core. It's a great running song. Woo Woo!  The second is Believe. The lyrics are great and inspirational:

I believe, I believe, I believe, hey
I believe, I believe, I believe, hey
I believe, I believe, I believe, hey
I believe, I believe, I believe, hey

Everest is only a mountain
A pyramid is just a shape
Doesn't have to hold you back
Doesn't have to pin you down
Let your dreams take flight
And your heart ignite!

Did you know that it's true
Everything is possible
It's nothing we can't do
It's a wild and beautiful fire
And I believe in you

I believe, I believe, I believe, hey
I believe, I believe, I believe, hey
I believe, I believe, I believe, hey
I believe, I believe, I believe, hey
'Cause I believe in you

Don't be afraid to be who you are
Just dream out and shout and follow the stars
Forget about the past that it's over
We are the young ones our way is forward
Who keeps tabs on stupid mistakes?
We all mess up but that's just the way

We learn how to get back up
We learn how to turn the page
So we will let our dreams take flight
And your heart ignite!

So I was at Subway a couple of times this week. I noticed some new chips. It looks like Lays is have a flavor contest. There were four new chips from different regions: Greektown Gyros, New York Reubens, West Coast Truffle Fries, and Southern Biscuits and Gravy. Not gonna lie, I may have thrown up a little in my mouth at the thought. Not one of them sounds good. I am curious about the gyro flavored ones. Will they taste like lamb or just the spices?

Food for thought...

Hello My Lovelies and Gents,

The other night I was with a client in the fitness center at her development. I am not sure what show was on, but it was something like Inside Edition. Anyway, it was some sort of sensationalized news segment show.

The item that caught my eye was the video of the employee at Checkers who dropped a bun on the floor (I am unsure if it was on purpose or accident) and before picking it up she wiped the floor with it and then picked it up and slathered on some mayo prepping it for a customer.

Gross.

Obviously people are outraged and horrified.

People are horrified that she did this. The company made a statement that they don't tolerate it. Okay story over.

I agree. It was gross and I was outraged...but for another reason. Where's the outrage about how much mayo she was putting on the buns? I mean, I will just put it out there. The odds are that whatever was on the floor is not nearly as bad as how unhealthy that sandwich is. Why aren't people more concerned about the fat and preservatives that go into their food? Germs are bad, but so is the other crap that gets slathered on burgers and sandwiches. Why is it so easy to be horrified at one and not the other? I CRINGE when I see some items on menus.

I think it's time people start getting a little more concerned about all of the ingredients that they eat (a little tip: Bacon doesn't need to go on EVERYTHING).

Just  food for thought.

Have a Blessed Evening

My body is between Marathons

Hello Beautiful People,

If I am going to keep running Marathons then I think I'm going to need to train for them year round no matter when it is. I tend to go through cycles. When I train then I do less weights. So when I am not in full training I tend to go Weights crazy. My body completely changes during this time.  It's like when a professional athlete retires. Months later they are still in shape, but they haven't kept up the intense workouts and training so they look a little different. That's me. Basically you can tell how far away the marathon is by looking at my body.

This week I am 4 months out from my next marathon and I am excited to get started and dreading it.  It tires me out, but you can't beat that cardio.  When I start my training I will start at 100 miles a month and work my way up. The pounds will fall off of the scale and my belly will shrink.

I LOVE Legs day. I mean I really LOVE Legs day. That has been my focus in the off season. My legs are strong. I am pressing 200+ pounds. My legs are in great shape, but no for running. I have been doing yoga to stretch them out, but I could not run a marathon right now. I would end up with a pulled hamstring.  The other problem with my legs day is that it tends to make my knee sore which makes cardio short and painful. And so my legs days will come to an end soon. I will still have smaller legs days, but nothing like what I am doing.

I have also been working on my upper body strength. Weight training makes me HUNGRY and without the distance training days I am not burning those calories. Bodies change with changes in workouts.

Last week I had a knee set back. Surprise!  On Tuesday I was with clients and I was just standing there. My whole body turned to the left, except for my foot. That in turn twisted my knee. When I hurt it laterally it always sets me back. I have been sore since then. Last week, I wanted a big run, but that wasn't an option. I wanted to end July with a bang and get a head start on August. I was able to get in 3 miles and then I followed it up with another 5 the next day.

It was a great start and then my life got super busy this week. I was the official photographer for Vacation Bible School, I had a full client load (including a new client), and I had a pool date. I didn't get in as much cardio as I would have liked, but I made sure to get some form of exercise in every day: Bike at the gym, weights at home, 1 hour walk in the pool, walk in the park, etc. I am beat. Today is an unplanned rest day, basically I am trying not to fall asleep as I write this. But, I have a planned distance day tomorrow. HOLLA!

To help me get on track I set up a Facebook Event for 100 miles in August. I really loved when I participated in them in my training for my first marathon. That accountability and support is key. The idea is to get in 100 miles per month through walking, running, swimming, biking, and any other activity (20 minutes = 1 mile). I'm a little behind, but I plan on kicking ass starting tomorrow...after I finally get some sleep.

Here is the link to my 100 miles (walking, running, biking, swimming, cross training, etc) in August page. Please feel free to join:
