Random Wednesday: Homeless, Shamrock Shakes, Stress, and Tony Stewart

Happy Random Wednesday,

Last week was a bit long and stressful. It was full of ups and downs.

The past 4 Mondays evenings I have spent at church. During the winter months we offer Room in the Inn and provide food and shelter for the homeless. My first week I just went for the Service. Then each week since I have gotten more involved. This past Monday I was the church member who slept over.

Each week it got harder and harder to sleep at night.

I was really worried about being able to sleep this past Monday. I avoided caffeine all day just in case. Luckily I was able to sleep most of the night. We were to wake everyone at 5am. I was so worried about oversleeping that I woke up at 4am. I was a little dysfunctional the rest of the day.
We offered that the guests could take all of the extra food. You know I was pushing the bananas and apples. After everyone left I discovered that there were Little Debbie Crème filled oatmeal cookies. They were the Former Fat Girl’s FAVORITE! I was emotionally exhausted. I ate one. And then I grabbed a second before I left. It was a stress eating moment.

I held it together the whole night, but when I got him my car to leave I just cried and cried and cried.

*****

Wednesday I had a babysitting job. It was a 10 hour day with 3 kids. The kids are cute, but the oldest, age 4, has been getting sassier each time I have been there. It was a very long day of Sass and poopy diapers.

I went to church immediately after for dinner and service. The dinner was soup. I had the beef vegetable. It was mostly broth so I went back and tried the buffalo chicken soup. And then I saw it. The ice cream. I ran for a bowl: two scoops of vanilla with caramel sauce over it. Some people have a drink after a tough day. I have ice cream.

*****

I have been really down about my knee. It’s really holding me back in my training. I haven’t been able to get the speed that I want and my mileage is lower than I had hoped. It’s very depressing. I want to be so much further along.

Saturday was to be a 10 mile distance day. I was struggling getting started. It was a crappy rainy day. But, I hit the treadmill. I had originally thought it was an 8 mile day. That’s what was in my head. I just about cried when I saw 10. I just didn’t think I had it in me. But once I got started I was feeling good. And then I hit mile 6. My feet started to go numb. I made it through 8 and then bargained with myself that I would do 2 bonus miles the next day. I needed to get off of my feet before I did damage.
I rewarded myself with a Shamrock shake.

*****

Things got progressively worse in the week as we got news of the passing of very loved high school classmate. It was extremely shocking and very unnerving. I wasn’t close with her, but it was still hard. I liked her and wish I had gotten to know her better. It was really hard to see so many people hurting from so far away. Much chocolate was consumed.

*****

The good news of the week is that I started with some new clients last week. Hooray!

*****

I got nabbed by some Girl Scouts outside of Walmart. I can’t say no. I saw a box I had never seen. It was for Oatmeal raisin with little pieces of greek yogurt berries. I got them. One of the reasons is because the portions are so small. It was one sleeve of cookies. Turns out I don’t love them. I like them okay, but not worth the money. I should have gotten Tag-Alongs!

*****

We're a month into the Nascar season and Tony Stewart is not doing so well so far. Clearly he needs me! Hey Tony, CALL ME!

Oh so Sunday night as I was getting ready for bed I realized that I had not showered all day. I showered late on Saturday and was going to shower when I got home from lunch. I sort of forgot as I only had a couple hours between getting home and having to go out.

Well the next morning I had two clients and then went to the park. It was almost 48 hours since my last shower. I was terrified that it would be the day I would run into Tony Stewart. That would be my luck. It didn't happen though. I don't ask for much, but I would like to not have a funky smell happening when I meet him.

Have a Blessed Evening

Wasted Carb Loading...grrr

Hello My Lovelies and Gents,

So do you remember in my last post where I said that my knee was angry with me?  Well it’s true. It’s not horribly painful, but painful enough that I have to nurse it. And you know how well I handle injuries and setbacks.

Yesterday I didn’t have my Sunday morning client. So I was able to sleep in a little and wear real clothes to church. Yeah! I had plans to meet a friend afterwards for lunch and then I was planning on going to the mall to buy a new scale. I dressed in skinny black jeans and my knee high leather boots. They aren’t heels, but they aren’t supportive.

My knee was swollen and painful Saturday night, but it felt okay Sunday. I still wore my compression sleeve over it and it still felt okay.

When we discussed where to go I was very excited because I was carb loading. I still had hoped for a distance today. We selected a deli and I got a baked potato and a half of a turkey sandwich. We visited for a little while and then headed over to the mall. I didn’t know that she would be joining me so it was a nice bonus.

We visited a few extra stores and even made a trip to starbucks where I treated myself to a cake pop…salted caramel.

I got my scale and we headed out. By then my feet were killing me. They missed their cozy comfy sneakers. When I got home I took off the compression sleeve and my knee started SCREAMING. It was not feeling good. I iced it some more, but it was only a matter of minutes before I realized that I would not be doing a distance today.

I was frustrated. I was angry. I would not have eaten some things had this not been the plan. Grrrrrrr….

The marathon is 10 weeks away. I started my training late. I don’t have time for an injury. I will finish, but I may be crawling across that finish line at this point. I am going to go light this week. That means food too. And then I hope to have a nice distance on Saturday to compensate for this loss.

Have a Blessed Evening

Get your Rear in Gear!

Hello Beautiful People!

Do you know what today was? It was the first 5K of 2015 for me. HOLLA!  I joined Ms. Amy’s team for the Get your Rear in Gear Colon Cancer 5K. I’m so glad I did. I love love LOVE 5Ks for a great cause. I enjoy 5Ks with thousands of people walking for a cause so much more than a few hundred running. It’s just so much fun and so emotional.

I wasn’t sure what I was going to do today though. It’s my usual distance day. Today’s distance was to be 13 miles. I decided to move my distance to Monday because I had most of the day clear. Then I got a new appointment. I can still do it, but I considered trying for the 5K, working with a client, and then go to the park for 10.

I have consumed a lot of coffee these past couple of weeks, way more than I usually do. I am tired. So today remains just a 5K day. And I’m okay with that. We walked the first 3 miles and then I tore up the road with my impressive sprint speed for the last .1 miles. The problem with that is that I was skirting around lots of walkers and the final stretch was a zig zag. I don’t know what I did, but my already sore knee is ANGRY with me. So it is now elevated and being iced. Tomorrow is a rest day. I will try to see what I can get in on Monday and be happy with whatever time will allow. Right now I should be able to the full mileage in, but my days change on a moment’s notice.

So today’s team was put together by Ms. Amy’s boyfriend’s sister-in-law. It is in memory of her Mother who passed away from Colon Cancer. I had told Ms. Amy back in the fall that I would join them and then when I found out the cause I was all in. Mom-Mom is a Colon Cancer survivor and I would be honored to participate in her honor.

Since it was going to be an early morning I tried really hard to go to bed early yesterday. I finished a coffee too late in the afternoon so I had a hard time falling asleep. Then I woke up in the middle of the night with pain in my right arm. My triceps were hurting. I’m not sure what happened, but suspect I pulled a muscle lifting a medicine ball one handed yesterday while my other hand was holding something. That was a little weird. I had a hard time staying asleep. I kept waking up. I assume it was anxiety over the fear of oversleeping.

Luckily for me that after my alarm went off I had very little to do. I had prepped everything last night. So I got my shower, got dressed, and got ready to go. I needed a coffee and started it while I took some stuff to my car. Frost! It was covered in thick frost. Grr. I had just enough time to get to
Ms. Amy’s…

Oh, and on that frost front, I had struggled with what to wear. Today’s forecast: sunny and 60….however, yesterday was cold and it was 27 degrees when I was leaving this morning. It would not get above 40 for the race. Which normally I would be ALL over…that’s perfect, but if I was walking with a group then I needed to layer up. So I had leggings and a t-shirt under sweatpants and a running jacket.

When I got to Ms. Amy’s we drove over to the team headquarters. Ms. Catherine, the team leader, went and picked up everyone’s gear a couple of days ago. She also had little gift bags with water, team hats, and candy for everyone. Oddly, I was registered for the team, but when she picked up the stuff they didn’t give her my stuff so we needed to head over to the race so I could get my stuff.

Happily I happened to see some signs of Spring on our way.

When we arrived there were masses of people walking all over. I love that. LOVE IT!  There were teams everywhere. People were coming together to honor survivors and in memoriam of loved ones. It brings a tear to my eye whenever I see the special race bibs with names.

There was still a little mix up, but I got my shirt and bib. I couldn’t find any “In Honor of” bibs, so I took a “In memory of” and crossed out memory. I put Mom-Mom’s name on it and Ms. Amy put it on my back. Then it was time to find our group for a team photo. That was pretty funny. The gentleman who was asked to take the picture had to keep backing up and backing up. Team Picked Eggs was in the house! Oh I’ll get to the name in a little bit.

The race started and it was just a sea of people. If you are a runner then you start up front, otherwise expect to finish in an hour. There are so many people you can’t move that fast. I’m glad I was layered up. I was fine, but most everyone else was a bit chilly.

I enjoyed the nice walk through Charlotte. I liked getting to know everyone and getting some fresh air. I had asked about the name Pickled Eggs and found out that it was Ms. Catherine’s mom’s favorite. I love that. Well, not so much the pickled egg part, but that’s a cool name.

You already know how it ended so I’ll spare a repeat. But, we did go straight to the refreshment table for water, fruit, and carbs. I ate half a banana and a cookie then I took a bag of skinny popcorn for later.

I think my favorite part of the day was that the DJ was playing music for people to dance to and it was booty music. The first song I heard was The Wobble…”back it up” te he. I was moving my booty and backing it up with them. I must remind you that I do have a booty playlist on my ipod. Cause I’m cool like that.

We went back to team headquarters and had some great food: Salad, egg casserole, pasta, garlic bread…all before 10am. It was lovely. Sadly I couldn’t stay long because I had a client session in a little bit. But, I did get a chance to try some Starbucks Skinny Vanilla Latte that you can get at the grocery store. I LIKED it!  I will get more.

It was a wonderful morning and I’m so glad I was a part of it. It always makes me feel good to help raise money for a good cause. Speaking of good causes, don’t forget to spread the word about my Run for Autism!  The Cleveland marathon is 10 weeks from tomorrow. I still need to raise $525 to meet my goal. Any amount you can donate will be much appreciated.

Have a Blessed Evening

Random Wednesday: Sex Sells and Healthy Eating

Happy Random Wednesday My Lovelies!

I feel the need to address something. The commercials for Hardees make me sick to my stomach. Sex sells burgers. It’s almost hilarious for someone to think that these women are practically making love to these big nasty greasy hamburgers. I avoid fast food at any cost, but I absolutely object to these commercials.

*****

I want a shamrock shake soooo bad. I am saving it distance day though.

*****

For tomorrow’s Girls On The Run lesson we are discussing Healthy Eating. It’s my favorite lesson. I can’t wait to get started.

*****

I had a hard time with my run yesterday. It turned into a walk. My legs were sore and super uber tight. At one point I practically had to ask myself if I was actually moving.

So today I devoted to stretching my legs. OMG my right hamstring was painful. Stretching should be fun, not excruciating.

*****

I can not be held responsible for my actions the next time I see a Cadbury Egg….they are my Easter downfall. I especially like the caramel filled ones.

*****

Here is a fun gross fact for you: if you #2 within an hour of waking up then you have a healthy digestive system.  I’m good!

*****

I don’t know who is more excited when my clients hit a milestone or have a breakthrough: them or me….I suspect it’s the latter!

*****

I was asked to be a mentor for a Confirmation Candidate at Church. The theme for our discussions is Chocolate for Lent. We are watching clips from the movie Chocolat. I can’t handle looking at the chocolate every week. One of the clips tonight looked like they were dipping their vegetables in chocolate.

*****

Back by popular request is an update on my toe nail…still there. I had a pedicure on Friday with Ms. Amy. I let the lady know ahead of time. I should have stressed that it’s a little tender. It HURT when she worked on it. I thought that would be enough to FINALLY jar it loose…it did not.

*****

And now something to file under things that make me SUPER mad. I heard a report on the radio that got my goat. Warren Buffett was giving the secret to his physical success. He said it is because he eats like a 6 yr old. He drinks 5 cokes a day and eats ice cream for breakfast. He says that it’s all about how many calories you consume and not about what you eat.

I sure as hell hope this was a false report.

He’s going to put himself in a diabetic coma. It DOES matter what you eat. To say that it’s only about the calories you consume is like taking a paint brush to a rotting house. It’s just a top coat. They house will still fall apart because it hasn’t been tended to.

*****

It’s time to update your playlist

There should be something here for every taste and routine. If you're looking for a few new songs to spruce up your existing mix, you're in luck. Alternatively, if you need a clean break, you can swap in this entire list—since it blends a variety of speeds and sounds that will get you moving and keep you guessing.

Here's the full list, according to votes placed at Run Hundred--the web's most popular workout music blog.

David Guetta, Afrojack & Nicki Minaj - Hey Mama - 86 BPM
Flo Rida, Sage the Gemini & Lookas - GDFR (K. Theory Remix) - 73 BPM
Big Data & Joywave - Dangerous (Spacebrother's Electro Stomp Remix) - 126 BPM
Fifth Harmony & Kid Ink - Worth It - 101 BPM
Madonna - Living for Love - 123 BPM
Imagine Dragons - I Bet My Life (Alex Adair Remix) - 117 BPM
Bleachers - Rollercoaster - 163 BPM
Maroon 5 - Sugar - 121 BPM
Yellow Claw & Ayden - Till It Hurts - 146 BPM
Penguin Prison - Calling Out (Elephante Remix) - 128 BPM

Have a Blessed Evening
