Hello My Name is Jennie and I have Olympic Fever!

Hello my Lovelies and Gents,

It's time for me to go to sleep, but I am an Olympics junkie and Usain Bolt just won the Men's 100m so I'll be up for a little while.

If you find yourself in a conversation with me during the Olympics there is a 100% chance that the conversation will eventually land on the worldwide phenomenon. I have loved the Olympics for as long as I can remember.

Thank goodness for Social Media because I think there was a lull in popularity of the Olympics for a long time. I blame it on cable. When I was younger and there were not nearly as many cable channels, EVERYONE watched the Olympics when they came on. Bear with me for a minute while I get a little nostalgic. Boys and Girls, that was during a time when you had to actually watch the TV in order to know who won. It was lovely. Of course the downside was that we only had one channel providing coverage so we mostly saw highlights. I have been so annoyed this time around and tried really hard to stay off of social media because of spoilers. It hasn't worked.  BAH!

Also when I grew up watching the Olympics it was full of athletes who had other full-time jobs. There are still a good number of those athletes today, but more and more they are professional. But, as a kid there was always that dream that I could one day be an Olympian. Granted, I was the most unathletic kid, but I had that dream. That is the beauty of the Olympic Dream.

Have you seen the movie Eddie the Eagle? If you haven't., then you should. It's one of my favorites and it is definitely a Feel Good Movie. It's based on the real life story of a kid who's only goal in life is to be an Olympian. My dreams paled in comparison, but it reminded me a lot of how I felt about the Olympics. Granted, I always envisioned myself as an Olympic champion in the least athletic sports and focused more on skills. I pretty much thought I could be the best at archery, even though I had never picked up a bow and arrow. I just knew that it didn't involve running or swimming. Well okay, I was the queen of the handstands in my grandparents' pool so there might have been a little pool dream, but they don't have any events where your feet touch the ground.

Okay, I think it's time for me to try and wind down. I did have some coffee to make sure I was wide awake for Mr. Bolt's performance, but it's wearing off.

Have a Blessed Evening

You Only Get One Body. Be Good To It.

Hello Beautiful People,

It's been a crazy week since my last post. Sound familiar?  Well it all caught up to me and I hit my wall....and that lead to my crash and now I'm sick. Friday I was so exhausted when I got home that I just sat like a blob. On Saturday I ran around getting errands done and prepping for a week of house sitting. That whole day I could feel the scratchy throat and the sore neck. By the time I went to bed I was fully congested. Sunday I finally got out of bed and showered before falling asleep again. I think I may have been awake for a total of 4-5 hours on sunday. I felt better yesterday, but after a morning of clients and working at the pre-school I had to cancel my meeting that night and passed out. I definitely have more energy today though. Hooray!

I'm happy to be breathing and feeling better. I'm hoping for a good night sleep. Rest has been my biggest ally.

The irony is that I was planning a post on Friday about taking care of your body. I had been struggling all week. I have talked about it before, but it's time again. My scoliosis kicked my butt last week.

I have minor scoliosis from the years of wearing my backpacks and super heavy pocketbooks on my right shoulder. To compensate my body would hoist up the right side and as a result my left side got pushed down. Mine isn't so severe that you would notice if you weren't looking. But, the reality is that I did this to myself. My spine is crooked and my left hip is condensed. It's super tight. Every now and then I will have a bad day where it bothers me, but last week I had about 3 days in a row. I try to sleep flat on my back, but sometimes when I have a lot on my mind I end up curled up on my side. When that happens I generally can't bend over for the first half of the day, but my body becomes more flexible as time goes on.

Last week every step that I took felt like someone had stuck two rods into my lower back and twisted every time I took a step. Even sitting was painful. The only relief I got was from laying flat on the floor, and well I couldn't do that all day.

It eventually got better, but the first thing I did after clients on Saturday was shop for new sneakers. I wear my sneakers all day every day. You should only be able to get 300-500 miles out of your sneakers before it's time for a new pair. I have felt so much better and feel like I could run a marathon in them...oh wait, I will in 4 months.

Okay, I'm ready for bed...and some more Olympics. I can't wait to talk about it with you. Just remember to take care of your body. Listen when it needs rest. Use BOTH straps of your backpack. Check the bottom of your shoes for too much wear.

You only get one body, be good to it.

Have a Blessed Evening

Random Wednesday...oh how I've missed you!

Happy Random Wednesday!

As a refresher and for those of you who are new to my blog, I like to use Wednesday as the day to post about my random thoughts. Basically, it's for things what won't fill a whole post, but that I feel need to be addressed. Haha.

Let me start by telling you about the dinner I made tonight. I try to have this 3-4 times a week.

I made it with spinach, Grilled chicken, carrots, cucumbers, cherry tomatoes, and balsamic vinaigrette. It is YUMMY.

*****

I am constantly being asked if I like the Pok√©mon Go fad because kids are moving around. The answer is a resounding HELL NO!  I love people moving. However, I love people moving in a safe and respectful way. Look up people!  I was driving at night through an apartment complex. My lights were on. People were walking directly in front of my moving vehicle even with my LIGHTS SHINING ON THEM...did I mention this was after 10pm?  Safety first kids(and adults)!

*****

That very next day I had the most amazing breakfast. I was heading North for a long weekend with my bestie and my little besties. I stopped for the night at my Mom's and had a wonderful breakfast with my family before continuing on to the beach.

I ordered the eggs with the toast with avocado and sea salt. I was intrigued...and highly satisfied.

It was beyond yummy...and I full for a while. The funny thing is that I was listening to an audio book on my trip and an hour after I left breakfast someone in the book ordered "Avocado toast with sea salt". Is this a thing now? Because I'm TOTALLY on board!

I have since made my own version.

Do you have Olympic Fever?  I DO!!!!!!!!!!!!!  I cannot wait until the opening ceremonies. You know I have some posts planned for it

*****

My new favorite place to go is Amelie's French Bakery. I went for my birthday and can't seem to stop going back. I have an addiction to the Salted Caramel Brownie mocha and the Palmiers.

*****

Donuts...oh dear donuts.

So Former Fat Girl Jennie LOVED Donuts...she could eat half a dozen in a sitting. Hence the former fat part. The problem is that donuts are empty calories. They do not fill you up which is why she could eat so many at once.

It was pretty easy to give up, a lot easier than I thought oddly enough. You can put donuts in front of me and I'm good about walking away. With one exception...Duck Donuts. What the heck? Do they put crack in them? We had them at the Outerbanks last month and I damn near lost my mind when they were brought in the house. Yet I can walk into Dunkin Donuts and I'm fine. I do that a lot too. I go for the coffee, but very easily walk away from the donuts. Well, munchkins are a different story. That's clearly an evil plot by some evil mastermind.

The Stereotypical Personal Trainer

Hello Lovelies and Gents,

It's been over two years since I left the corporate world behind for the Personal Training life. And I have to tell you that there has never been one regret. I do not miss the corporate world one bit. I miss being around so many people all of the time, but I do NOT miss being tied to a desk.

It is truly amazing how what an unhealthy atmosphere so many people are subjected to day after day. Extra work and overtime piled on and then you are bribed with pizza. Yep, that's a fair trade. Sit here for hours and hours and then we'll heap fatty calories that you don't have any time to burn off on you.

That's not to say there aren't downfalls to being a Personal Trainer. The biggest issue is clearly the stereotype. Every murder mystery show has the trainer having an affair with the victim or the victim's spouse. Now the relationship between trainer and client is intimate. You definitely become aware of your client's body in a way most other people don't. And if you are good at what you do, your client will start to develop more self confidence and be a little happier with themselves. Those could transfer to the trainer. Okay, I probably need to stop watching murder mysteries.

Or they portray the trainer as a hard-assed muscle Nazi. Um, no.  It's about being healthy, not zero body fat. And I truly don't understand the Dumb Personal Trainer...that was one of the hardest exams I have ever taken. Although in fairness, mine is a very well respected certification and not all of them are. In fact, there are trainers out there who aren't certified. That infuriates me. There is so much you need to know and consider to be effective.

One of my clients has a history or falling and breaking bones. I have spent more than a year working on bone density and balance with her. I asked her recently if her doctor does bone density tests and if there has been any improvement. She says there has been no decline. We're taking that for the win. But, the big thing was that she had recently fallen after stepping into a hole. She had previously broken ribs doing the same thing. This time she was able to steady herself and came away with all of her bones intact. I was beaming ear to ear. It has made me so happy. I most certainly never got that satisfaction sitting at a desk.

I love my job.

Now, I will have to add that were I to become Tony Stewart's Personal Trainer, I would have to reconsider my "no relationship with my clients" rule...oh yes, I would reconsider. haha.

Have a Blessed Evening
