Biggest Loser - Season 14 Episode 3

WOW!  Biggest Loser Season 14 Episode 3 was an emotional roller coaster for me. I related to soooooo many stories.

So at the start of the episode we catch up with the White team.   For them there can be no mistakes. Pam breaks it to Danni "The good news is that we get a lot of time with Jillian.  The bad news is that we get a lot of time with Jillian."

Before we get started Allison calls the teams into the food room. They are in a room with junk food, video games, sofas, and TVs everywhere. She tells them that the average American child spends 4.5 hours a day watching TV.

Cut to catching up with the kids.
*Lindsay spends 4-5 hours in front of the TV every day.
*Sunny eats when she is stressed.  It makes her feel good.
*Bingo once played the same video game for 17 hours straight.

This week's challenge is a Trivia challenge. The losing team will be locked in the room for 4.5 hours a day.

Question 1: What percentage of American children ages 2-19 are obese?
A- 5
B- 12
C - 17
D - 39
Red and White both pick D
Blue picks B
The correct answer is C

Question 2: What percentage of overweight children ages 5-10 already have one risk factor for heart disease?
A - 10
B - 25
C - 45
D - 60
All of the teams got it wrong. The Answer was D.

Question 3: What is the biggest single contributor to high sugar diets?
A - Chocolate
B - Fried foods
C - Sugar Sweetened Drinks
D - Ice Cream
All of the teams got it right. The Answer was C.

Question 4: Complete this sentence: Over the past 3 decades the percentage of obese children______
A - Decreased
B - Doubled
C - Tripled
D - Stayed the same.
Once again, they all got it right. The Answer was C.

Question 5: What % of the parents of obese children think that their child is okay or underweight?
A - 20
B - 38
C - 51
D - 75
Blue and White chose C.  Red chose D. They were correct and are safe.

The tiebreaker for the Blue and White teams: On average, what % of daily calories for kids ages 2-18 are wasted on sugar.

White said 55. Blue said 68. The answer was 40%. White won. Everyone kept saying "I don't want to tell Bob!"

They are sent straight to the room. Big Mike starts moving the food to one concentrated area. Alex takes a pitcher of orange juice and pours it over all of the food to avoid temptation. LOVE THAT! SMART GIRL!

The other trainers break the news to Bob. WHAT??? "I've had to deal with a lot on this show. How am I going to make this work?"

No one wants to be in that Temptation room. Danni says that she would rather take a beating from Jillian than be in that room every day.

Spending some time with the Red team Cate feels like she has a leg injury. Dolvett doesn't think so. He says she has weight in her head.  His job is not to help her lose the weight on the scale, it's to help her lose weight in her head.

Cate has a trainer at home. She says that she feels bad because she wastes her trainers time. She works so hard on Cate and then Cate goes home and unravels it.  Dolvett tells her that it's time for her to be honest with herself.

Bob goes into the Temptation room and finds the team laying around. He says it's an uphill battle, but he gets the message. They will just have to show everyone what they are made of.

While the white team is working out, Francelina from the Red team is hanging around them. Jillian invites her over to join them. She starts to talk with her one on one saying that she doesn't know her story, but it's obvious that she loses and gains. She sabotages herself. Why?

Francelina has guilt. She was sad when her father passed away, but she was relieved and feels guilty for that. He was an alcoholic. She couldn't understand why he behaved the way he did and it was hard on her because she was a Daddy's girl.  "It's hard to mourn someone you adored, but had a big problem with."  Jillian points out that he used alcohol to make his pain and she uses food.  Francelina says she was naive to think that she could deal with the physical and not have to deal with the emotional.

We haven't checked in with the kids so it's time. Dr. Joanna, a Pediatrician and childhood obesity specialist, goes to visit them.  Nutrition is half the battle.

Bingo - On average he spends 9 hours a day playing video games on weekends and 5 hours on weekdays. Dr. Joanna mentions that on average people consume 25% more calories when they are consumed when they are not paying attention. Like when they are snacking while playing video games or watching TV.  The recommended amount of screen time is no more than 2 hours.

Sunny - She is a vegetarian.  Dr. Joanna calls her a Carbo-arians.  She wants her to pick whole grains now. Brown rice. Whole grain breads and pastas.

Lindsay - She is Pre-diabetic. Her body is not processing the insulin and sugar properly. With proper nutrition and exercise she can avoid medicine.

LOVE Dr. Joanna.  "If it's here, they're going to eat it!" Hey where have I heard that before? Oh that's right...From ME!

She goes through their kitchens and throws out all of the sugar. She guarantees them that they will get plenty of exposure to chocolate outside of the home.  Let the house be a safe haven.  It's okay to have it occasionally, but not in the house. I LOVE THAT!

The good news is that they will replace all of the food with healthy options.

TEAM CHALLENGE TIME

The reward is a year's worth of groceries.  The challenge is to wade through a pit of bubble gum to go pick up a 10 lb gumball and wade back through the pit. They needed to collect 20 gumballs.  Pam was not medically approved to participate and that would leave Danni alone. So Pam would be cheering for the Red team.  Danni would work with the Blue team because David's injury will not let him participate.

This was fun to watch. Big Mike said that this was "definitely a challenge for the little ones, not the big boys."  Jeff said that wading through the bubblegum was like walking in quicksand.   It was neck and neck most of the way. At one point Jackson looked like he was ready to toss his cookies.  "I've thrown up all over this ranch. It is not happening in the pit.  My teammates would never forgive me."...ewwwwwwwww  Thankfully he did not.

Towards the end Big Mike's knee flared up. I couldn't watch.  But, he said "I don't quit!"  Good for him.   But, it's not enough. Red wins by 1.

Afterwards Cate commented on the challenge. "When you fill your body with junk that's how you move. It's like going through a pit of bubblegum."

LAST CHANCE WORKOUT!

Inside the gym Cate is punching at bag.  She doesn't want to go home. She's just starting to find herself. Dolvett tells her that he's proud of her. Lots of warm fuzzies.

Jillian is outside with her team. At first they are doing really well, but then Pam starts to struggle. Jillian says that happens every time. She does well then starts to cry. Pam says that she sees the other contestants pushing through their walls and it's frustrating. She can't break through hers.

Meanwhile, time runs up in the Temptation room and Bob enters. He decides they will have their last workout there. He pulls out a deck of cards.
Spades = Thrusters (lifting chair or other objects overhead)
Clubs = push ups
Hearts = burpees (standing to squat to plank and back)
Diamonds = Squats
Face cards = 10
Ace = 11
He starts flipping the cards and calling out the suit and number. They are one big giant sweaty mess when it's over. Bob wanted the message to be "This room did not break me!"

WEIGH IN!

This week there is no Red Line.  But, there is a new voting room.

Blue is first.
*Jeff started at 359 lbs and now weighs 348 lbs for a total of 11 lbs
-and let me just say that I am staring to see it in his face
*Alex started at 225 lbs and now weighs 221 lbs for a total of 4 lbs
*David started at 278 lbs and now weighs 272 lbs for a total of 6 lbs.
-and that is with a serious injury
*Big Mike started at 409 lbs and now weighs 396 lbs for a total of 13 lbs.
-he wanted to be under 400 lbs and he did it!
-Allison said that if he "keeps this up we'll have to stop calling you Big Mike"
*Gina started at 223 lbs and now weighs 215 lbs for a total of 8 lbs
Blue team total: 42 lbs 2.81%

Red is next. They need to lose more than 36 lbs.
*Francelina started at 242 lbs and now weighs 237 for a total of 5 lbs.
*Joe started at 326 lbs and now weighs 317 lbs for a total of 9 lbs.
*Jackson started at 302 lbs and now weighs 300 lbs for a total of 2 lbs.
-Jackson is upset that his restrictions have cost his team. Dolvett said "I am here to tell you that
    you're not doign anything wrong."
*Cate started at 220 lbs and now weighs 218 lbs for a total of 2 lbs.
*Lisa started at 225 lbs and now weighs 223 lbs for a total of 2 lbs.
Dolvett commented that "These numbers are not reflecting the work. I couldn's ask for anything more from my team."
Red team total: 20 lbs 1.52%

Now they didn't say it, but it's kind of time that it happened. They did so well during the infamous week 2. It's just their bodies starting to plateau in my opinion.

Now it's the White team's turn. They need to lose more than 6 lbs.
*Danni started at 234 lbs and now weighs 228 lbs for a total of 6 lbs.
Cue the dramatic music. Jillian is yelling "You've got this Pam!" Pam responds "Jillian if you jinx
me I will fly off here and pound cake you!"
*Pam started at 219 lbs and now weighs 210 lbs for a total of 9 lbs.
Pam does her dance and Jillian says it's time for Pam to stop fighting with her. And the bonus is that Pam is the Biggest Loser of the week.

So now for the first voting elimination. The red team doesn't even have time to go and discuss. They are put on stools right there and sent in to the special voting room one at a time.  The only person who is safe is Joe since he had the highest percentage.  Dolvett was so connected to this group. As he was saying good bye he said that it hurt his soul.

Cate votes for Jackson.
Jackson votes for Lisa saying that she's strong and capable.
Francelina votes for Cate.
Joe votes for Cate.
Lisa votes for Cate. "This person can get it done.  She has family to support her and dreams that are going to happen. She's going to call me and I'm going to be at the at finish line for her marathon."

Cate's going home.  She said that the hardest part about leaving is that she just started figuring things out. And that Dolvett was just starting to rearrange the furniture in her head. "Being healthy isn't a chore. It's a gift. I don't think I can do this. I KNOW I can!"

Today Cate weighs 196 lbs.

She used to have Fat Tuesday.  After she would workout with her trainer she would go through the Drive-thru.  Now it's Fit Tuesdays. She still dreams of her Full Marathon and is training for it. I would be there at the finish line for her if she calls me!  Gonna miss her!

Have a Blessed Night my friends.
