One night with Jordan, Donnie, Danny, Jonathan, and Joey

Hello my Lovelies and Gents,

Oh, Oh, Oh, Oh, Oh
Oh, Oh, Oh, Oh, Oh
Oh, Oh, Oh, Oh, Oh
Oh, Oh, Oh, Oh, Oh

That's right people, we are talking New Kids on the Block. *Giddy Scream*

te he

It felt like the countdown was on forever (technically since January 30th), but last Tuesday was officially the BEST NIGHT EVER!  I never wanted it to end.  We went to see New Kids on the Block in concert. I never got to see them when I was in high school or on any of their past tours.   I was super excited about this. And I was super excited to share it with two of my favorite Ladies, Maci and Kim. We have loved NKOTB forever and yes, we still frequently talk about our love for them. Yes, we are THOSE girls.

Let me start off by giving you a little background. Maci, Kim and I worked together from 2004-2007. We bonded over our shared NKOTB love. Yup, we really did. We would always talk about who our favorites were. Kim would fight you for Donnie, so no one messed with that. LOL. Maci and I both hearted Jordan.  In 2007 I moved back to Philadelphia and was not around to go to the NKOTB concert when they reunited and toured. Maci and Kim went to the concert and called me so that I could hear them. They also picked up a giant Joey pin for me, as I was really into Joey at that time (and kinda still am, still have mad love for Jordan though).

Okay so about a month before the concert I started to freak out about what to wear. I wanted to look nice. You never know right?  Lol. I wanted a dress that would be comfy, but look nice. Now this is going to sound crazy, but Mom gave me a couple of nightgowns last month that I absolutely adore. They are long with a v-neck and slits up the legs. I wear them every night and secretly wish that I could just put a bra on and wear them out for dinner. And so I found something similar on Amazon and ordered a dress in Raspberry. I was nervous about the fitting and length, but it all worked out. I'm thinking of ordering a few more in different colors. Hello cruise wear! They are perfect for Jamaica.

Also in preparation I got a new curling iron and shoes. I mean I was going all out. I was hitting the gym every day leading up to it. I was giving myself facials and mani/pedis. I was taking care of myself. It felt good. I deserve to take care of myself. We all deserve that.

For concert day I cleared my afternoon to get ready.  I had made a beautiful Summer Harvest Soup the day before and I was going to have some on Tuesday for lunch, and then I thought about it. There was asparagus in it and well, that makes me gassy and it ain't pretty. So I  chose something different. I was also planning on going to the gym that afternoon, but we decided to meet earlier than I originally thought and curling my hair takes hours. So just imagine my reaction when when I drove home and saw a Power truck on my street doing work. They were there the day before and had cut the power for a couple hours while they worked. WTH??? Yep, no power for 30 minutes. BAH!  In retrospect I should have just showered by flashlight and candlelight, but instead I opted to do a fresh coat of polish on my nails. And then I ended up messing up my thumb later. Grr...

So I was running behind, but I spent some time working on my hair.  I didn't get to work on it as much as I wanted to, but I killed it. It was hot and I knew that it would probably go up soon anyway.

I didn't love the dress so much when I put it on. Something was wrong and it didn't look as nice as the first time I tried it on. Then I realized that when I looked in the mirror the first time, I only looked from the waist up. Ugh, my belly stuck out a little and there were some back rolls that I wasn't crazy about. I grabbed a pashmina to cover the back and sucked in big time.

As excited as I was to see Jordan and Joey, I was equally excited to see Kim and Maci. OMG it was like no time had passed at all since I had last seen them. We have talked about getting together, but it hadn't materialized. We have the best time and we are laughing so hard immediately. I think I pulled a muscle trying not to pee from laughing so hard.

We were laughing so hard that we missed our exit and took the long way around. Eventually we arrived, parked, and then decided to walk around looking for a place to eat. We walked one block and I know I peed a little I was laughing so hard. And that's before I had anything to drink yet. Unfortunately I glanced sideways at my reflection in the windows and cringed. Stupid belly. Suck it in Jennifer!

We saw umbrellas outside and headed towards them. The first sign I saw was for BBQ. I would have loved that a year ago, but No Thank You. Next to it was Brixx Pizza and we all agreed that it was a big YES. It was hilarious walking in. Everyone was decked out in NKOTB shirts and/or neon accessories. It was pretty much heaven. I really wanted to bust out into song and see if everyone would follow along.

I was looking at the personal pizzas, but then a sandwich caught my eye. I ordered the Housemade Mozzarella Sandwich: housemade mozzarella on focaccia with roma tomatoes, red onions, basil, and balsamic vinaigrette. I passed on the onion.  I also chose the fresh fruit side. OMG it was so good.

No time for dessert. We needed to get over to the arena. *SQEAL* Seriously, 14 year old Jennie was flipping out. My adrenaline for the night was off the chart. I didn't, couldn't, fall asleep until 3am.

The concert was part of the Mixed Tape Tour that included Tiffany, Debbie Gibson, Naughty by Nature, and Salt-n-Pepa. When we walked in we walked immediately to the merchandise. None of the NKOTB stuff spoke to me, but Oh I fell in love with a Salt-n-Pepa shirt, but I didn't get it. Besides NKOTB I was most excited about seeing Salt-n-Pepa.  I balked at the shirt though and we made our way to our seats.

When we got to our seats the place was packed.  No surprise, it was filled with just about every 40+ chick in Charlotte. LOL.  It was funny watching everyone calling their friends and waving to each other across the arena from each other.  I knew a bunch of people there. In fact a friend, who is also a former client, was in my same section. She looked FABULOUS. I'm so proud of her. You Go Erin!

A DJ came on to hype up the crowd and it was fun all dancing and singing, but gah BRING ON NKOTB!  I wish I could post the video I took when they finally came on. My 14 yr old self was absolutely screaming my head off. Okay, in all fairness, my 40 something year old self was screaming just as much.

I broke all of my rules. I should have had a water to drink during the concert, but I refused to leave to pee. I wasn't going anywhere as long as they were performing. That did affect my voice later that night and the next day, but it was worth it and some sacrifices needed to be made for the greater good.

They started off singing "The Way" and followed it up with "Summertime". I love them both, but nothing compares to when they broke out into "You've Got It (the Right Stuff)". *Squeee*

After a little while they walked through the crowd and came to the stage in the back that was in front of us. Be still my beating heart. And then this happened.

I took that picture!!!! Hello Jordan! Wink Wink. I heart you too!

Sigh...wait where was I? Okay, after they sang in front of us they took a break and Tiffany and Debbie Gibson sang a few songs.

And then NKOTB came out in their Black outfits. These guys only have a few years on me and they looked Amazing. I mean I'm happy to offer my Personal Training services if they ever need it, but they are in incredible shape. Seriously though Guys, my services are 100% available for you. I'm also a Fitness Nutrition Specialist if those services are needed.

After several songs they took a break and Salt-n-Pepa came out. Pardon my language, but I lost my shit!  I was so excited. I knew I would be, but even I was surprised at my reaction.  These ladies still look and sound AMAZING.

They started with "None of Your Business." The audio of my video of it is me screaming at the top of my lungs along with them. Then they went into "Expression". The ladies are in their 50's and HOLY CRAP they still got it. PLEASE let me look THAT good in red leather when I am that age. Shoot, please let me look THAT good in red leather now.

They weren't done yet and sang "Whatta Man". There was a quick break to show the Gentleman changing. Cue the adolescent screams. LOL. It was a good segway into "Let's Talk about Sex".  Which was also a good segway to NKOTB coming back out right in front of us again.

I know Jordan, I was excited too!

They sang a bunch of songs, took off their shirts, channeled their inner Magic Mikes, and pretty much set the place on fire. Sorry, but the shirtless pictures remain with just me, Ms. Kim, and Ms. Maci. I like to send them  K and M sporadically throughout the day. You're welcome Ladies :-)

After igniting every loin in the arena, NKOTB took a break. Naughty by Nature came out. They were followed by Debbie Gibson. She sang "Lost in Your Eyes" and was joined by Joey. That was incredible.

Salt-n-Pepa came out again and were right in front of us singing "Shoop". That was my song for about a decade. I could NOT contain myself  and pretty much decided right there that I was going back for the shirt before we left for the night.

My apologies to Ms. Maci right now, because I'm pretty sure I hit her 100 times out of excitement during this song.

Tiffany came out again after them and sang "Could've Been". Her voice is simply incredible.

But alas, NKOTB came back out with "I'll be Loving You Forever" which is pretty much how long Maci, Kim, and I will be loving them.

And then they KILLED it with "Step by Step".

Step One: We can have lots of fun
Step Two: There so much we can do
Step Three: It's just you and me
Step Four: I can give you more
Step Five: Don't you know that the time is right.

And THEN KNOTB starting singing "Push It" and Salt-n-Pepa came out. Again I lost my ever loving SHIT!  My video is HILARIOUS. I kept turning it on to myself and was FREAKING OUT. Seriously, my love for Salt-n-Pepa knows no end.

Just when my heart calmed down again, KNOTB came back out and sang "Hanging Tough", which fun little fact, is the song that wakes me up every morning.  This time they came out wearing Boston Red Sox jerseys. This Phillies fan will let this slide because the place was electric...and Donnie never buttoned his.

And then everyone came out and sang the final song "80s Baby"  It's a good song, but it made me sad because it meant the end of the night. I was lucky enough to capture this moment though. LOL. Pepa was looking at Joey like I would look at Joey ;-)

It was an incredible night. And yes, I stopped and got the shirt. I got a bit big for me because I still have that mindset, but that's okay. I will make it work. Plus it shrank a little when I washed it.  Also, Pepa is from Jamaica and it will be a good shirt for the Cruise...can you tell that's on my brain? November 30th can't get here soon enough!

Not to get too sentimental or anything, but I did think about what I would tell my 14 year old self about me today. First of all, seeing NKOTB for the first time was completely worth the wait. LOL. Second of all, it's not going to be easy, but the journey is worth it. Girl you finished TWO marathons (she won't believe me). You're going to battle some sad times, but you are going to come out on the other side and you are going to be okay.

Thank you Ms. Maci and Ms. Kim for being my Peeps. I had the best night and it would not have been the same without you. Also, I am almost done editing the over 1090 pictures I took (that is actually not an exaggeration).

Thank you Jordan, Donnie, Danny, Joey, and Jonathan for making me smile so much.  Please come back again!

Thank you Salt-n-Pepa for being so Bad-Ass!

Have a Blessed Evening,

Jennie
xoxo
