Butt machine, Thigh machine, Hip Flexer...Oh My!

Happy Sunday!

So I went back for day two at the gym today.  My legs were sore all night so I knew it was going to be a different workout today.  My plan was to mix it up with half weights and half cardio.  I started off working my abs for about 15 minutes.  I wanted to get on the treadmill for some stretching before hitting the weights, but I got too excited.

As I was walking over to the treadmill I found my FAVORITE machines: the butt machine, the hip flexer, and the thigh machine.  OH MY GOODNESS I HAVE MISSED THEM.  I immediately forgot what I was doing and headed over there.  The Thigh machine and hip flexer are very similiar.  You sit and either push weights together or apart with your legs.  They are awesome.  I can remember the first time Michele and I did them.  We sucked. And it hurt the next day so bad.  It was a great day when we got our weights up.  I'm not going to lie, I have tremendous muscles in my legs.  I always have.  Since they thinned out from all of the walking the bulk of the muscle is gone and I wasn't sure how I would do.

Planet Fitness is a judgement free zone and I like to think that I'm competitive, not judging.  Yes, I got a huge thrill when I got on each machine and upped the weight by 60lbs.  I still got it!  In fact, my thigh weights were my highest ever.  YEAH!

After that I went over and did my chest and shoulders.  I was planning on a lot of arms today, but my legs got the better of me.  I like to focus on one or the other.  Oh well.  I'm still doing well.

Next I headed over to the treadmill.  I brought my book because I had read a little at Starbucks earlier.  I got it out.  I've gotten pretty good at reading on the treadmill.  I used to do it all of the time.  I like to limit it now and push it the rest of the time.  I still hear the guy that made the comment "if you can read a book, then you aren't going fast enough".   Well, I still have a pretty good pace and it's a different workout than normal.  I have seen people reading and walking at a snails pace.  While I want to yell at them and make them move faster, part of me is saying "you do what you have to do".  I know the feeling of not knowing whether to walk or read.  If you can do both then more power to you. It's better than sitting all day.

I had no choice about going slower this time though.  My legs were soooooo tight from yesterday and the machines that I couldn't get past my cool down pace for the first 15 minutes. I whipped out my book and read for an hour on the treadmill.  I'm not going to be too hard on myself, I really needed that as a stretch.  Tomorrow I will hit the cardio hard.  I have plans at lunch so that will be my only workout of the day.  Gotta make it good.

So the fun news from the gym is the number of guys that were checking me out.  This is completely foreign to me.  I've had the occasion guy look before, but I'm not stupid.  I was never in that great of shape.  I counted today.  There were 7 that I caught.  YEAH!  I walked out of there with a smile on my face. Of course it helped that today's workout wasn't as sweaty as yesterday's.  haha. Before I would always go in thinking I looked pretty good and then I'd see some young tight little thing that would knock me down a few pegs.  Today I held my own.  It's a good day :-)

I was doing well all day eating and working out.  And then tonight I had a church event at a local coffee bar.  As soon as I walked in I saw the plates of pastries.  OH they looked good.  Even pastor asked me if I was going to be Good.  I walked away from the plates.  I was pretty proud.

And then later someone was carrying them around to every table offering them up.  BAH.  I took a cookie.  My willpower had weakened.  It was a good cookie though.  And then I tested myself by gathering all of the leftovers to donate to the homeless.  I am happy to report that they all made it into the bag.  I did not take any more.  *It's kind of hard to cheat when it means taking food from someone who is starving*.

  1. Oh how I miss going to a gym with lots of equipment. Though I guess I don't miss snotty comments from people. I can't believe a guy actually said that to you... jerk!
